So scared - colposcopy biopsies taken for 'urgent review'

Hi all. Last Monday I had a colposcopy following an abnormal smear result. I've also had abnormal bleeding for years. The nurse said I had a very fragile cervix and took several punch biopsies for 'urgent review'.

I have never been so terrified in my life. I am convinced the bleeding means I have had cancer for years. I am so so scared of leaving behind my daughters aged 10 and 8.

I don't know how to focus on anything right now. Does the urgency mean she could see cancer? And thinks it is advanced? I am noticing every ache and pain in my body and thinking the worst. Is this normal?

  • Welcome to the forum Bexx888 although I'm sorry for the worry and stress this is causing.

Waiting for results is always very difficult, especially when you hear the words 'urgent review', but try not to read too much in to this if you can, as it could refer to many things. Always easier said than done I know, but I hope it helps to know that many of our members have been in a similar situation so you are not alone and hopefully you will receive some support and advice from them soon.

I hope this information I've found about abnormal bleeding will help to ease your mind but if you feel it may help to talk things through with one of our nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We're thinking of you Bexx and will have our fingers crossed the results bring good news when they come through.

    Kind regards,
