Who to contact for excision biopsy results?

I had a mole removed (4 weeks ago this Thursday). The letter said 4-6 weeks for results but the nurse who did my procedure told me to ring and check after 2 weeks because I'm going away and ideally need the results asap for my insurance.

Who would I ring? Would it be the hospital or my gp? The letter had some physician secretary numbers on to ring if you hadn't received your results after 6 weeks but my physician wasn't included. I left a message with the hospital but not sure if it was the right number and I'm yet to hear anything back. I know my results may not be back yet but the nurse said sometimes they get left sitting around so it's good to check. He said realistically it should be back in 2 weeks because it's urgent but the letter didn't say this.

  • Hello Lucy-hargy

I'm sorry to hear that you're waiting for biopsy results at the moment. We know that many people are experiencing delays in receiving this news at the moment so although the nurse told you that you would hear within 2 weeks, don't be worried if it takes a little longer.

If you're unsure about which Consultant's secretary to call then you contact the hospital PALS team. They provide a point of contact for patients and can help you with health-related questions such as this.

Hopefully you will have some news soon.

    Best wishes,
