Heterogeneous lesion - womb cancer

Hi, I have bled everyday for a year (pre menopause) bright red blood and clots, waited 5 months for a scan which was on sept which detected something which they couldn’t determine either polyp or other it said.

last week back hip and pelvic pain escalated to the point where I couldn’t walk properly and I was haemorrhaging blood, I was admitted to hospital in the gynae ward. On the first day they attempted biopsy but too much blood so sent me for another scan as the consultant felt that the scanners could pin point it better than original scan.

Scan came back and they said my uterus is expanded mid to lower section by a heterogenous lesion, may be a pendulacated prolapsed submocous fibroid or a polyp on a stalk but they need to rule out cancer. They managed to take a biopsy the next day, I was in distress and crying not at the biopsy but because I had to walk from my hospital bed to get it done and in extreme pain. Morphine wasn’t even cutting it I just need whatever this is out!

I was discharged so on bed rest at home on various opioids I’ve signed for a hysterocopy plus polypectomy plus myomectomy depending what it is. My discharge letter says I’ve been booked for one but not given a date and no idea of how long just told I’m on emergency list. I’ve also been given tablets to slow the bleeding.

has anyone experienced similiar? How long does biopsy usually take and urgent hysterocopy?  I’m really upset this has been left so long and has now escalated to this point where I'm incapacitated due to the location of the lesion I think is pressing on a nerve and if I turn a certain way or make movement a flush of blood comes

  • Welcome to the forum Stormborn although I'm so sorry to read all that you've been through. It sounds like you've had a very difficult time over the last year so it's completely understandable, and natural, to be feeling this way.

Hopefully some of our members who have contended with similar symptoms or been in a similar situation will share their experiences and advice with you soon but if you'd like to discuss any of this with one of our cancer nurses, you can contact them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I really hope you won't have to wait too long for your next appointment and this gets resolved soon.

    Kind regards,

  • Fingers crossed, thanks for your kind message

  • Hello there

Just wanted to say I'm so sorry to read what your going through, it sounds absolutely terrifying, I can only imagine how you are feeling and I hope they get to the bottom of it soon.

I noticed you are on the emergency list for hysteroscopy and biopsy,  I had my appointment within two weeks for my first one. So hopefully you won't have long to wait, and I'm not sure if you've had one before, but I'd strongly advise you to request they give you anesthetic and take good pain killers before you go in hun.

Will be thinking of you with my fingers crossed and hope this nightmare soon comes to an end for you x

  • Hi, thank you for your kind message.

yes I've already had the womb biopsy done however need a full hystercopy plus polypectomy or myemectomy, they made me sign for both as they have not decided what the lesion is yet. That's good to hear it should be in two weeks. I am already on tramadol and dihydrocodeine so hopefully that helps and I should be getting a local anaesthetic. Then whatever they remove I'm sure they will send for biopsy too. I really hope it's successfully as need to get back to normal asap.

i have a consultant appointment on sat which was booked before the a and e visit and wondered if maybe she would just do the procedure then

    thanks x

  • When I was referred from the GP it was on the 2 week pathway and I had both the ultrasound and the hysteroscopy done on the same day , 2 weeks and 1 day later. I was actually contacted by telephone for the appointment about 3 days before. I was told to take painkillers before I went - they expected to be doing a polpectomy and I was told I would get local anaesthetic and gas and air pain relief if needed. I ended up with ultrasound, hysteroscopy and womb biospy - the polyps turned out to be fibroids and could not be removed on that day. Since in your case they are already prepared for either polyp or fibroid you won't have that issue and I'm sure given the pain you are in , you won't have long to wait. I hope you hear soon and that you soon get releif from your suffering

  • I initially waited 5 months for ultrasound then from that was a month wait for gynaecology appointment but ended up speeding things a long a little after being admitted to hosp.

i really hope they can offer gas and air too but should be all ok for the rest. I was fine for womb biopsy though was in distress and crying due to my other pains (from walking from hospital bed to room) and the hip and back throbbing.

thank you for sharing your experience this helps and hopefully end is in sight.

  • You are very welcome x

Good luck on Saturday and I hope it all goes ok and it gets resolved and you can get back to normal and resume a normal life soon

    All the best x

  • Thank you, I'll report back whether good or bad x
