I just wanted to try to put a few of you at ease by sharing my recent experience
i'm a fit 48 year old but from August I'd been having stomach gripes and pains which resulted in some loose stools. It seemed to come and go a bit but I got the impression something wasn't right so went to the docs
I had a FIT test and the score came back at 19.6 which is positive (anything over 10 is). I panicked as my score was nearly double but I've since realised scores of >200 aren't unusual and they can be >400.
I had no visible blood on my stools but the stomach gripes were still there I do think though they got worse after I was told about the positive result. Stress plays havoc with my stomach, always has.
I had bloods taken, all fine.
But I was referred on the urgent 2 week bowel screening programme. I had an initial telephone consultation where they asked about bowel habits, family history etc then booked me in for a colonoscopy and gastroscopy which I've literally just had.
The moviprep ain't nice (to clear your bowels the night before) but I just necked it because I couldn't face sipping it
I opted for sedation mainly because I'd heard the gastroscopy wasn't nice.
I was semi awake for both and the staff were incredibly supportive as I was nervous. I got the results straight afterward.
Colon was fine but I have gastritis which is an inflammation of the stomach lining which I can get medication for.
Like you all I had a horrid two weeks after too much time on google convincing myself it was the worst outcome.
it probably won't be......stay away from google if you can, we're blessed to have our NHS who have now put my mind at ease. Good luck everyone and try not to let your imagination run away with you, I'm a hypocrite as I did.
