I am so sorry that you find yourself in this awful situation too. It is scary and you are not being at all silly. We nearly all become very anxious, have difficulty in sleeping, cry a lot and generally feel depressed.  This is normal when you are in such a stressful situation. You feell distant from other people because many of them don't appreciate the torture that you are going through.

It is unusual to have cancer at your age, but sadly, not impossible. You have done the right thing in getting it checked out. You will usually be seen at the breast clinic within 2 weeks from the date of your referral. It is only natural to think the worst at this stage, but try to remind yourself that it isn't cancer until yu're told that it is. It is a fact that only 1 person in every 8 referred to the clinic will receive a cancer diagnosis, so here's hoping that you'll be one of the lucky ones.

Thank you for the warm and kind introduction. It really made my morning before going to work, was nice to feel not so alone and it really reassured me that I'm not being irrational.

I managed to get everything sorted with work so I have the day off.

I'm sorry you are finding yourself  having these problems with your breast  at such a young age,but it can and does happen but you should be proud of yourself for having the courage to get things checked out . That in itself isn't an easy thing to do, as we all know when we find a lump  or problems anywhere in our body's. 

Your not being irrational ,it's natural to feel like your feeling,and to be honest, it's only the people who have been where you are that truly understand your anxiety,  concerns,sleepless nights ,its being faced with the unknown that makes you feel so alone and a detachment from people ,as you feel your emotions are all over the place. 

But  hopefully you will get seen soon,and  your get some good news that it's not anything serious.  There could  be a number of reasons why your experiencing these symptoms  hormones could be a lot to do with it,as they can cause a milky substance to produce out of your nipples. I know I had a lot of problems when I was younger  just before a period,my breasts would feel very heavy and painfull like they were filling up with fluid  ,so much so that it felt like I had to squeeze my nipples to release some of the tight painfull pressure I was experiencing   and as i did this I did get a milky substance come out of my nipples.  So it could be your hormones. 

Or it could be cysts they are harmless  but do cause some pain sometimes. 

But if it is anything sinister ,just think to yourself I'm lucky I've found it now it can be  looked at ,diognosed and treated  accordingly.  Try to stay positive  it really helps. Good luck with everything, and do let us all know how you get on.Big hugs sent your way . 

Hello im in my early 70s....never thought that I'd have  to ask for help of this nature. I've never really had any problems to do with breasts. coz my breasts from puberty havnt really changed much in my 73 yrs. 

anyway cut to the chase now ...a couple of weeks ago I noticed a dint in my rt breast. thought it was just where I'd layed in bed wrongly or something.  went to GP who examined me cudnt feel any lump ...refered me to Breast Clinic ...appointment 23rd of Nov 22......im anxious but not scared at this point .....no family c history.

Welcome back to our forum. We think nothing of it until we're in this situation, but it's amazing how worried we get when waiting for a diagnosis. You are not alone in having to ask for help, but you've come to the right place, as most of us have stood in your shoes.

I notice that you were recalled after a mammogram 3 yearsago. Did they find anything then? Your GP doesn't have the necessary equipment to test you. This is why you've been referred to the breast clinic. It usually takes about 2 weeks from the date of referral to be seen at the clinic. Here they will, discuss your symptoms, examine you and then likely carry out an ultrasound, mammogram and a biopsy. You usually have to wait 1-2 weeks after this to get the results of your biopsy. This is the gold standard way to test and the biopsy is the definitive decider for a diagnosis.

You will find the staff in these clinics are usually very sympathetic and understanding. When you return for your results, they will already have been discussed at your consultant's MDT (multi-disciplinary team) meeting. This is where all of the different professionals, who could be involved in your case, discuss any further surgery and treatment that may be needed.

Having said all this, only 1 person in every 8 who attend the breast clinic get a cancer diagnosis, so let's hope that you are one of the lucky ones. There really is nothing to be scared about. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 13 years and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

Hey Everyone! Resievil4eva here! 

Went for my appointment today and good news! I have been diagnosed with duct ectasia which I'm probably gonna be stuck with but it's not cancer! I'm so relieved! I can't thank everyone on here enough for your well wishes and support.
