Small hard gristly lump behind knee

I've had a small hard lump behind knee for last 3 months. First noticed it whilst rubbing /massaging it after it was aching after a long drive being sat in same position. Saw Dr today who said if felt gristly. It sometimes tender and has referred for ultrasound. He said it could be some cartilage that's come away? Anybody have any ideas or experience with this?

    I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found a lump. It's understandable that you may be feeling anxious but it's good to know that you've already seen your GP and that they've requested an ultrasound. 

    There could be any number of reasons why you have this lump so try to think positively and hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your ultrasound.
