This is always a worrying time, but you have done the right thing. You have a lot going on in your life just now. Can I ask, what ages are your children?

Your appointment should come through within 2 weeks from the date of referral. The best thing you can do in the meanwhile, is to keep yourself distracted and busy, to try and forget about the wait.

Thanks, my children are 15 and 7. It scares me because I was 33 when my mum died and felt so lost, can't imagine what young kids will feel like.

Hopeful I will get a letter within a few days, the stress of the wait is so much

My mum died from secondary breast cancer too and I was terrified when I was diagnosed. Fortunately, diagnosis, treatment and aftercare have improved massively in the intervening years. There is just no comparison between my mum's experience and my own. 

My children were young teenagers when I was diagnosed. I have since seen them leave school, go to university, graduate, find gainful employment, marry and provide me with 2 beautiful grandchildren.

I have replied to a number of posts over the years, because I know how terrified I was at your stage. I got some great help here on this forum, from people, who really knew what I was going through. It made such a difference to me and I hope that I can do likewise for newcomers to the forum.

How are you doing?

Just wanted to share with you as I had very similar symptoms to yours.

My right nipple had leakage only when squeezed which went on for a long time and like you I just put down to hormones. The liquid was very dark but not bloody, almost squid ink colour. Then last year I found a small lump under my breast (also right side) so went to get checked. On the day of my appointment the liquid was actually blood which of course sent me into absolute panic! . Turned out the lump was a harmless cyst which has now disappeared and the liquid was due to blocked mammory ducts. I had them removed (benign papilloma I believe is the term the doc used) in April this year which was quite straightforward. Chose to have removed as I was worried that if I left it 1 day it could be something else and I would just continue to think it was normal.

Good that you are getting checked and i know it can be worrisome but wanted to share that my experience was ok

Thank you for taking the time to reply, it's really nice you have taken the time considering everything you are now faced with.

My first thought about all of this, is the kids, 

I am already at the stage of not caring about work or any other stressors,  as it all just seems not important. 

I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you, your kids will be your strength,  amazing how much fight we have for them x
