Darkened thyroid nodule

Hi I wonder if anyone has had a fine needle aspiration after an ultrasound scan found a darkened nodule on the thyroid. I'm not even sure what a darkened nodule is? I had the fine needle aspiration yesterday and just anxiously waiting on results a darkened nodule wasn't even in my radar so now a bit confused over it all. Lots of questions running about in my head like If it's not cancer then what else could it be if it is cancer how soon do I get results!! Can anyone explain a darkened nodule to me please? :)

  • I'm not sure what the darkened part means, but I do know that thyroid nodules are very common and the vast marjority are not cancer. Most are just benign nodules that are no harm whatsoever. I think it is about 5% that are cancerous.

And even if it is cancer, thryoid cancer is not what you might be imagining when you hear cancer. It has a very high recovery rate and chemotherapy or radiotherapy may not be needed. Generally, it's just the removal of your thyroid.

I got the results a week after my biopsy, which took place...maybe 6 weeks after the scan?
