Calcification, awaiting biopsy results

Hi there,

I know I'm panicking, and possibly for no reason, but I was recalled following a routine mammogram today and it was more stressful than I thought it would be. I was shown my mammogram, which showed a cluster of white dots (calcification), then had an ultrasound then a mammogram guided biopsy. I have to wait 8 days for the results. I just wondered if others had had the same procedure and what the next stage of treatment was?

  • Hello

    did you get your results?

I had biopsy's done today think they took around 5 have to go back on 30th for results. guess Xmas has delayed it.

I have calcifications as well plus Cysts

  • I'm in the same situation unfortunately. Mine have been seen in both breasts but after magnified mammogram they are only concerned about one side. I had a biopsy but have been called back for another as the sample wasn't good enough and didn't have any calcification in it. Mine has been given grade 3 which is indeterminate/likey benign but I'm in a state about it. Having a vacuum biopsy on Tuesday with results the following week.

It was my first mammogram which was only done as an MOT type thing as I'd gone to clinic with breast pain. I'm 43 so not eligible for them every 3 years yet.

The waiting is horrendous and I'm really struggling. I'm trying to be positive I really am but it's so hard!

I spoke with a breast nurse today who explained things again for me which has eased my worry a bit.

I really hope everything is ok for you xx

  • I can't stop googling things. I know I shouldn't.

    good luck xxx

  • They took lots of samples today, and kept going out to check under the microscope that they where good enough.

  • Me too, i know I'm making myself worse but I can't help it!!!

  • Hi ShonaW,

Yes, I was told that the calcification that I have was caused by either an infection or trauma and thankfully, not cancer. Apparently, what I have is a minic of cancer, which is why there were concerned. I had mastitis 5 times in that breast when I breast fed my two children, so it's thought that that is what caused the scarring that gives the appearance of malignant calcification.

I really hope that you're results are ok. I found the biopsy to be quite traumatic, so I hope you're ok.

    Best wishes,

    Kerry x
