So scared of brain tumor

So I am having a mri in three weeks. I have very bad headaches and neck pain for almost four weeks now. The pain is on the top of my head round the back and around my head. I am just so scared of having a brain tumor. I was having light hardness which seams to have gone. I just head stories of only having headaches and having a big tumor. I have a big health anxiety due to my friend dying of cancer.

so sorry to ranting on.

  • Hello School1,

I am so sorry to hear your friend died of cancer - this is is bound to have left a deep mark and made you feel really anxious about these headaches. It's good though that they are taking things seriously and have ordered this MRI for in 3 weeks' time.

I hope you won't have to wait too long for your MRI and then the results. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to find out more.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be as it is likely your headaches are caused by something other than a brain tumour. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online as this will only make your health anxiety worse. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. Do talk to your doctor though about your symptoms and about your health anxiety as I am sure they will have some good suggestions for you. There are helpful tips too on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
