Urgent gynae referral - 35 years old

Hi ladies,

I went to my GP after having 4 periods in 5 weeks. I had an internal examination /swabs done.

My GP has requested an urgent gynae app due to finding in her words (2 small cysts that aren't usual )

I requested a copy of the referral letter and at the bottom it mentions 2 raised areas of a few mm's, oval in shape with erythema, cause? Cyst?

Need cancer ruled out via colposcopy.

I'm not sure if that's her suggesting she thinks it's that or if that's usual for a GP to write those words???

I've had mild dyskariosis and HPV positive smear results a few years ago now. Have gone back to 3 yearly checks after my last clear one.

I'm not really sure how I feel or what to think. I went through the stress of having an ovarian cyst assessed last year!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello Sophie,

I can understand you are feeling so worried at the moment but it sounds like your doctor is being thorough and I hope that the colposcopy will shed some light on what this is. I don't think the doctor is suggesting it is cancer by writing these words, but simply that they need to have a closer look just to rule it out and find out what it is. The fact that you have gone back for yearly checks for mild diskaryosis and HPV is also reassuring as it means that any changes can be acted on very quickly.

I hope that you won't need to wait too long to have your colposcopy and you can find information about it on this page

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be fine and that you get this sorted quickly. Waiting for answers or a diagnosis is really stressful and there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.
