Is it serious - appointment to discuss ovarian MRI results

I am 38 yo married woman with children and my CA125 test results in last few months were as follows:

May - 64

June - 124

July - 100

My GP in surgery referred me to the local hospital for further tests. My ovarian MRI was done in mid September, and after 1.5 months I received letter from hospital for a face-to-face appointment with the doctor to discuss the MRI results next week. I am  a bit worried if this is an indication that they detected or suspect cancer. Note my mother was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer in April, at the age of 68 (the main reason I decided to get myself tested for CA125). Is a face-to-face appointment usual practice in NHS even if the MRI test results are negative or not a cause of concern?

  • Hello dazzling378 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

You must be feeling rather anxious as you are waiting to discuss these MRI results next week - try not to draw any conclusions though if you can and don't automatically assume they suspect cancer as there could be so many reasons why they want to discuss these results next week in person.

It's normal that you are feeling worried given your family history but all you can do really is go to your appointment next week without fearing the worst if you can. I hope that you will get to hear from the experiences of our members who have also had a face to face appointment for their MRI test results and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be no cause for concern when you see the doctor next week.

Best of luck for your appointment next week and best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hope all goes ok at the appointment x
