Awaiting hysteroscopy biopsy results

Hello everyone

I'm so glad I came across this forum, reading so many similar stories has helped me feel less alone.

My story is extremely long so I'll keep it brief.

I am 45 years old and went through surgical menopause in 2013, I had both fallopian tubes and ovaries removed due to recurring cysts and lifetime infertility, I was on hrt patches since. Abnormal bleeding/discharge, constant cramps and back pain, dizziness and change in vowel movements since mid August.

5th September - Dr referred for urgent investigations. Blood tests, ultrasound scans. Blood test results normal, stool sample results normal.

8th September - ultrasound and transvaginal ultrasound. Discovered womb lining thickened.

2nd October - hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy failed. Given no anesthetic, Dr found closed cervix pushed through regardless! Excessive pain and I nearly passed out,  absolute barbaric. Procedure failed referred back for it to be done under general anesthetic.

15th October - colonoscopy - clear, no sign of bowel cancer. Great news.

17th October - more blood tests - normal.

28th October - hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy under general anesthetic. Successful and anxiously awaiting results.

Since the procedure my pain has remained, bleeding intermittently and back pain continues. I would say the pain is getting worse. The gynaecology Dr kept telling me "you don't get pain with endometrial cancer" but I've read lots of places, you do. So I'm confused as well as worried sick. Tired of being in constant pain. I also asked Dr if I could have an MRI scan but she said it would not give me answers.

I've been told 3 to 4 weeks for results....it is agony waiting and I'm glad I'm not alone.  Does anyone else have constant period style cramps and back pain like me??

Thank you for reading and I look forward to hearing from you all xx

  • Hi Twinkle-Toes77,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It sounds like you've been through a fair bit in an effort to get the answers you need, and I can certainly understand the waiting must be difficult.

My reply here will mean a few more people should see your post - so hopefully you'll receive further replies soon. You can of course browse or search (using the button in the blue bar above) the forum for other relevant discussions.

I hope you're able to find out more before long, and in the meantime I hope the forum is helpful.

  • Hello Ben

Thank you very much for your message and help

  • I'm also waiting for biopsy results - it's horrible isn't it?

This is now my third instance of post menopausal bleeding - the first one eighteen months ago I had a scan (showing slight thickening) and hysto that were all clear, the second just a scan as lining was under the referral threshold and this third time the scan showed slight thickening again. So back to the hysto!.

The consultant said everything looked "completely normal" but was going to do biopsies because of the repeating pattern- she said she wouldn't have done them if this had been the first instance. She was very thoughtful in telling me she would be doing biopsies before starting the procedure - so at least I know for certain it wasn't because of something she saw.

BUT...it's just still so awful isn't it? Like a weight always there in your mind. I was distracting myself with a puzzle today and nearly ended up in tears when it was gojng wrong so things are definitely getting to me.

Anyway, the first time this happened I also had back and pelvic pain which scared me out of my mind - however both have hugely improved since then so that kept me slightly calmer this time.

So my experience not quite like yours but wanted to reach out anyway - it helps to write about how you're feeling knowing the person on the other end will completely understand. And of course wishing you all the best.

  • Bless your heart, thank you for your reply and telling me your story.

It is absolutley agony waiting for results and I hope you get yours soon and they can get to the bottom of your abnormal bleeds.

Thank you for confirming you also had pain in your back and pelvis and your tests were negative, it gives me hope x

You are completely right, it does help to know the person reading will 100% understand how you are feeling.

It's been a terrible weekend, because I stopped the hrt patches the week before my hysto and biopsy, all menopause have symptoms kicked in...hot flushes, insomnia, emotional and crying over the smallest thing and yesterday I flew off the handle and threw things around then burst into tears...it was kind of the last straw. Today, I've started the patches again, its too much to cope with at the moment, so for now I'll keep the hrt until I know more of what's going on.

Thanks again for replying and I wish you all the very best x fingers crossed for us both and for anyone else in our situation x

  • Just wanted to update:

My results came through today and I'm pleased to announce they are normal.

So...now I have to wait for gastroenterology to send my appointment for the Endoscopy/gastroscopy.

Just need to get to the bottom of this now.

  • That's great news - I just got my all clear half an hour ago!

Wasn't sure whether to update as you might have been still waiting and presumably wouldn't want to see "Yippee, I'm off to celebrate" posts from me.

Letter was dated 11 November - so I've had eight days of unnecessary anguish - why can't the NHS use Email?

Good luck with the next part.

  • Awww that's excellent news hun, so pleased for you also xx

Such brilliant news xx made my day

I've been referred to the community gynecology unit now, just need to wait for an appointment xx

Fingers crossed for a resolution for both of us and everyone else in our position soon
