Hello everyone, I'm a 43 year old male and have recently been having issues with my stomach and thought it might be helpful to write on here to maybe get some reassurance or hear anyone's experiences with similar issues. I basically went on a stag weekend to Prague 6 weeks ago and when I came home felt very unwell for a couple of days. I basically felt like I had food poisoning with fever and chills etc. I developed diarrhoea straight away and this continued for a week. After a week I felt fine but still had diarrhoea so went to A&E to get checked. I was checked and told it was a stomach bug and it'll get better by itself. After a further week the diarrhoea was still happening so I went back to A&E and was checked more thoroughly with a blood test and drip attached to get me some fluids back into me. The blood test revealed a high protein c reactive number which the doctor said was a sign of inflammation in my stomach. The diarrhoea then stopped and hasn't come back since. The next day my gp asked me to do 3 stool samples. One was the fit test, one was a faecal calprotectin and the other I forgot the name of. They all came back positive so was told to wait two weeks and then re take them. After two weeks I re took the fit and Feacal calprotectin which again came back positive. The fit was higher than the first time and the calprotectin although positive had gone down a lot. The gp has referred me for a colonoscopy which is this Saturday afternoon. She said that the way it came on straight after travelling she doesn't believe it'll be the worst but its protocol to rule it out. Before I went on the trip I was perfectly fine with no stomach issues at all which gives me hope it's not the big c. Does anyone have any similar stories or even some encouraging words to help me through this time. I have never been so stressed in my life and finding it so hard to sleep and keep my mind off it all. I have a 3 year old beautiful boy who is my world and look at him with tears in my eyes at the moment. Once again this came on straight after travelling and I have had no stomach issues my whole life so it just doesn't make sense. The diarrhoea lasted two weeks then stopped and hasn't returned. I am now having solid poos regularly each morning but they smell a little strange and sometimes have a little bit of mucas when wiping. Could this still be down to a bug I caught whilst traveling? Thank you so much in advance for any support.
