Unknown skin lesion on scalp

Dear Forum

i recently underwent surgery to remove an unknown lesion on my scalp.  I've had this lesion approximately 2 years, thought nothint of it other than it could be some kind of exemza psriosis.  The lesion would occasionally itch, other times not so much.  The skin would break and would become sore.  Visited dermatologist who advised a biopsy.  I attend to have biopsy taken, plastic surgeon removed another section above lesion which was a raised warty type area.  The surgeon advised they describe skin with this sort of feature it doesn't necessarily mean wart.  Surgeon advised if all is clear I will receive a letter.

4 weeks on I've now received a letter. Stating they have booked me in for a telephone consultation appointment with one of the plastic surgery team.  I'm now panicking.  The letter also advises I have a list of any medication prior to taking the call.  The call is scheduled for 4 weeks away.

if this was anything serious would they push the call faster? I feel like I'm waiting on a knife edge for the call and result.  My guts telling me maybe another procedure?

if anyone on here could shed some light as I'll be worrying about this for the next 4 weeks.

much appreciated

  • I'd phone and demand further details of what exactly is going on.

  • We can only hazard a guess at what's going on as it could be a number of things.

It could be one of several types of skin condition including keratosis or basal cell carcinoma. Most skin conditions are treatable with topical cream and it may be that your list of medicines have been asked for to ensure any prescription cream given doesn't contradict your medication.

Or, it could be they think one of your medications has caused the skin lesion.

Or, it could be, whatever it is, needs further excision to ensure it's all been renoved. The 4 week wait for the appointment doesn't really signify how serious the condition is I'm afraid.

I would call and ask for someone to ring back with more information. The Secretary isn't allowed to give you information but they may be able to get a nurse to ring back.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • Thanks for your reply angie, your right the secretary wouldn't give me anything, she advised this morning she will see if a CNN nurse can call me.  Nevertheless I'm worried sick. the excision site never properly healed since biopsy/lesion removal. Approx the size of 10 pence piece. I wasn't sure if 4 weeks was a standard waiting time for a telephone call to follow up with results.  I was referred to the skin cancer clinic initially, who put me onto plastics for removal.  I thought if results were sinister they would be quicker than 4 weeks.  Glad I found this forum it's a frightening time not knowing.  God bless everyone x

  • I also thought it was long, I was had my biopsy in July diagnosed with Basl cell Cardemena but my  appointment is 8th December, far to long I've lost so much weight everyone is asking questions.

    Very frightened.

    Godbless you all.

  • Hi,  I'm so sorry that you received ( that ) letter

I cannot say what you're diagnosis is but you will receive a call try not  to self diagnose yourself it's the worse possible thing we can do.

I understand you are very scared I was too and i still am.

I had my diagnosis now I just got to wait 4 weeks which personally I think is terrible, to find out whether it's still localised  hence I've lost so much weight since my last appointment.

My prayers are with you and your family.

    Godbless you.
