Ovarian cyst 10cm had MRI scan tonight

Saw the Specialist Wednesday this week referred for fattrack MRI had it this evening (Friday). Very nervous about results. Judging by other chat content 10cm seems much larger. Is being referred for MRI showing it's likely to be cancerous? I'm 54 and still peri-menapausal. Probably shouldn't have started Googling. Any simimilar experiences please?

  • Hi Alison.c and welcome to the forum.

Waiting for results, as you're finding out, is always very tough but our community are here for you and I'm sure some of them will be along soon to offer you their support and advice.

I hope this article on how to cope with waiting for news will help keep your nerves at bay as well but if you'd like to discuss any of this, including your question about the MRI, with one of our nurses, they're just a phone call away on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We're thinking of you Alison and will have our fingers crossed for good news.

  • I have had complex ovarian cysts they fast tracked me from colorectal, l had an MRI ect and had them removed soon after. I had loads of adhesions everything was stuck together. The biopsies were fortunately benign l hope you find the same with yours.

  • Thank you. I'm finding it a bit overwhelming if I'm honest.  Glad thing were ok for you.
    Thanks for replying.

  • P.s when l saw the clinic surgeon he said they wouldn't operate until the cysts were 10 cm mine were 6cm and 5cm with left sided pain, at a later appointment the oncology surgeon said she was happy to proceed. As they can be precancerous l was glad to have  them removed

I hope you are feeling ok

  • Hi,  I hope you're ok and had your MRI results back now - or is that too soon?  It's so horrible having to wait for results, the stress is almost suffocating.  What symptoms did you have and what tests did they do before they referred you for MRI?  I've just had an ultrasound (yesterday) which I self referred for, as my GP is unbelievably slow and I'm still waiting to have initial blood tests done.  I knew there was something, due to my symptoms (weeing loads, pain in ovaries area, nauseous) and they found an 8cm cyst yesterday (not attached to anything though), so now I'm wondering what the next step is - MRI / CT scan??  I was just interested in what happened to you for you to be fasttracked to MRI?

I hope you hear good news.

    Many thanks,
