Ovarian Cyst? Femoral hernia? Torn labrum?

Evening,

I'm having real trouble. I've been in pain for the last six months, thinking I pulled a muscle I saw a physio and chiropractor. After it just wouldn't go away and got worse I went to the doctor who referred me for an ultrasound, it came back as a femoral hernia, success a diagnosis. Then yesterday I had unbearable pain and was advised to go to ane. At ane they did a CT scan and I was admitted.

Surgeons said there was no femoral hernia on the CT scan, but there were some swollen lymph nodes and a large cyst. However the surgeon said its more than likely I torn my labrum in my hip and that's why I have pain. So he's referred me to a hip clinic and advised I also follow up with a transvaginal scan. The thing is my scan for hernia was transvaginal so surely if there was something it would have been spotted 10 days prior.

I'm so tired of being in this pain, I can't work properly and I can't do any sport because of this. I know it could be worse but I am honestly baffled with going round in circles about my diagnosis. Any able to help?

  • Poor you AnyAdviceWelcome123, I bet your head is spinning from feeling you are going around in circles with your diagnosis. It's good that they are being thorough though and that you have been referred to a hip clinic and I hope that you won't have to wait too long for your transvaginal scan.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be while you are waiting for a definite diagnosis. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for your reply Lucie, it's appreciated. Unfortunately my referral date for the hip clinic isn't until 30th January and thats a phonecall appointment.

The night surgeon did feel something hence my admission to hospital but the day surgeon just said the lump he could feel was a lympnode. I have read the femoral hernias in women are usually hidden only detected by ultrasound and symptoms are radiating pain.

The pain is not subsiding and I truly feel I've hit a wall. I spoke to my gp who's done a referral again for a second opinion on my first ultrasound on the groin revealing a femoral hernia and a tranvaginal scan. I've also done a blood test for ca125. I did full blood work and the only thing to come back was that my white blood cell count was slightly high.

    I feel like a hypochondriac.
