Hello there,
Has anyone had experience of taking a hormonal contraceptive to manage their fibroid symptoms? I'm interested to find out more from any users of the combined pill in particular. As a previous forum user mentioned, the wait time from consultation to dates for scans and then surgery is incredibly long. When you approach your doctor at crisis point with symptoms it's very disheartening to realise it might be a year or more before the goal of hysterectomy (currently in my case) is even reached. I really didn't want to be taking drugs to manage the symptoms but with such a long wait, it seems impossible to continue for so long without using them. I've recently used tranexamic acid to manage very heavy bleeding, only over two periods so far, which has helped in that I can leave the house now rather than being stuck indoors for 2 days to use the bathroom every 20 mins. But it has caused the period to last 10 days, and for the inbetween bleeding to be extremely confusing and unpredictable. At least before I took it, the periods lasted 7 days with around 2 days of extreme blood loss at the start, then about a week later, the inbewteen bleeding would begin, causing random interference intermittently or for long stretches up to the next cycle, usually 4 to 5 weeks after the last period ended. You get used to managing what is familiar. But now the pattern is completely shot. Last period very late, very long and now the inbetween bleeding is pretty bad.
I have been prescribed the combined pill (not sure what brand yet), has this helped anyone else? Or has it created other issues for anyone, and the same regarding the tranexamic acid?
Thanks. Shared support and experience can be a big help when faced with health problems and in some cases very upsetting decisions to make. If anyone else needs to have a conversation or can offer some answers to my own queries, please do reply.
