Breast Biopsy Results

Hi,

In 2019 i had a ffibroadenoma removed from my right breast, after having a fine needle aspiration and ultrasound.  1-2 years later a lump appeared in the exact same place - i was told fibroadenoma's could not regrow.  I got this checked by GP, who were not concerned, however again was told it was very unlikely i could have another fibroadenoma as they tend not to grow back on the exact same place.  I went back to GP 6 months later as it had gotten bigger.  I was reffered to breast clinic, however they felt the lump and dismissed it straigh away.  A further 6 months i have went back to GP as the lump is now really painful, especially during ovulation and menstration cycle (which is the majority of the month) - it was so painful i was unable to lie on my right side.  They reffered me urgently back to the breast clinic.  My appt was last Monday 17th, where i had an ultrascan, core biopsy, metal clip insterted and then a mammogram - on my note to the mammogram it stated T3.  While i was having my ultrascan, i was told the reason they were taking so many biopsies was because they were checking the lump but also something that they were not happy with the look of on my scar tissue from my op in 2019.

They advised me that is all good, they will phone me to confirm results, however if it was bad news i would receive a letter.  I was advised i wouldnt get anything for atleast 2-3 weeks.  Exactly a week later i have recieved a letter stating a i have an appointment on Monday 31 October.  The letter was dated 18/10 which is the day after my inital appointment and biopsy.

I phoned the clinic as i wasnt sure if it was a duplicate appointment by accident (as i had phoned to chase and they had scheduled my inital appt on the phone).  But i was told it was my results, i spoke with the secetary and she said unfortunatley she is unable to tell me much more than this, however confirmed i have been discussed at their MDT meeting on the 19/10 and it was following this.  (However, my letter was dated 18/10 the previous day).  My consultant is on leave and returns the day on my appt 31/10.

I am only 27, and i feel that i keep getting dismissed and told you to young to have breast cancer.  However, my mum and grandma both have the BRCA 1 gene and have both had breast cancer, stage 1 and stage 3, my mum being 34 when diagnosed and grandma 54.  Also when i got my previous results, these were over the phone and because i requested for the fibroadenoma to be removed, they scheduled me a further appt to discuss this.

So my questions are -

Can you get results from biopsy less than or just 24 hours?

Do you only get an appointment when its bad news.?

Has anyone else been told something similar and it has turned out to be benign?

Thanks x

  • Hi Hannah,

so sorry you are going through this, it's likely that the appointment was set regardless of your result. This is quite common.

2-3 weeks is quite normal wait time for biopsy results.

t3 is middle of the ground. They don't believe it to be highly suspicious, but they are not certain.

my ultrasound was a 4/5 meaning more then likely malignant.

Age is a misconception. Breast cancer doesn't discriminate based on age, sadly women are getting diagnosed younger. I was 34 on diagnosis. My gp spouted the same your young yada yada.

The waiting is the hardest part. As hard as it is, try not to worry too much until you know either way. Remember only 1/8 people are diagnosed. fingers crossed for you

  • Thank you for your reply, it has put my mind at ease a little.  Monday isnt to long away now, so just trying to keep busy and stay positive.

Im also sorry to hear about your previous experience and diagnoisis. Its very frustrating that DR always discrimanate by age, as this has happened to me previously for a different diagnosis.  As you say, it can happen to anyone regarless.

Thank you again, really appreaciate your comment x
