Mole changed

Hello

i had a mole which had grown and the boarder had gone almost blurred and different colours.

I was put on a two week referral to a consultant, to have it checked and I was such a state of anxiety.

I went today and the first consultant said he wasn't sure if it was ok or not, after examining it, so said he would get his colleague for a second option. His colleague then said it was fine, but looked again and said let's take photos and review again 3 - 6 months, to see if it's Changed again and then sent me on my way.

I have some trust issues along with health anxiety, so I know I over think every situation and it's someting I am trying to work on, but I wondered if anyone else had been given the watch/monitor approach, rather than just to remove it and send off for histology please?

I am unsure if a mole can change and still be benign, despite its boarders and colour changing :( I'm guessing it can, but trying to stay away from Google :)

Thank  you

  • I have had many moles removed for various reasons, raised and itchy, change in size and colour and even bleeding.

There is a history to skin cancer in the family so like you was anxious and always expected the worst. But not 1 has come back with issues.

You did the right thing in seeing a GP and dermatologist. You could speak to GP telling him of your anxiety and to ask for the mole to be removed for peace of mind? I did this once and they obliged.

Yet my daughter when she was 5 had a mole on her shin which I queried and it turned out to be a halo mole with border line changes so it was removed.

Keep checking, be vigilant and re-visit GP with any concerns. And stay away from Dr. Google

    Take care
