Lower right colon cancer possibility

Hi,

I attended my GP today as I have had a pain over a week in my lower right hand side. I have been struggling to pass a stool which has been really soft when I do, I also have a lot of wind, the pain is really localised and hurts if there is pressure applied like sitting up or if I twist a certain way, its causing more pain to walk too. They examined me and were concerned as I have in the last 12 months extremely low folate and vitamin D levels. I have lost a bit of weight since August about stone there or there abouts too.

They have referred to onto the cancer pathway so hopefully I will have more answers soon. They did mention it could possibly be cancer as a lot of symptoms are present but they need to rule it out also.

Can I ask if anyome has experience of right sided colon cancer and what your symptoms were / are? This has wiped me off my feet and I have been thinking about it all day. I am hoping it is something else but I also realistic after meeting with the GP and would like to prepare myself for worst case scenario.

Regards Kevin

  • Hello Kevin1982,

I can understand you're worried but, as you say, further tests need to be carried out to rule things out and there's no way of knowing more about your symptoms until they're done. When you're worried that you may have cancer, it can be natural to think the worst, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better.

I'm sure you'll have more answers soon. If you want to read about the referral process, you can here.

    I hope this helps,
