Water balloon like lump in breast

A few months ago I was having a little check of my breasts, I'd never really done this anywhere near as often as you should. My boobs are very small and I never really knew what I should be feeling for but hadn't noticed anything that alarmed me, until around May this year. The only way I can describe what it feels like is as though I can feel the edge of a breast implant, even though I don't have any, in my left breast. I am a very anxious person, especially when it comes to anything health related so I only finally plucked up the courage to book in with a GP today.

I went to my appointment and described what I've said above, she felt my right breast and said everything felt normal, then moved onto my left and said I was right, there was something there but she wasn't sure what it was. She concluded that she thinks it's just my breast tissue but has referred me to the specialist to check, so I am waiting for the appointment to come through now.

I was just wondering if anyone has had something similar to this, as I have had a look online (I know, not always the best idea!) but cannot find anyone that has described how their lump felt, like mine. I just keep seeing them being described as small, soft/hard. Whereas mine feels like I've got a large water balloon inside my boob

Any similar experiences or stories would be very welcome to try and calm me down a bit! Thank you!

  • Hi Salana and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I know it must have been scary but well done for booking an appointment with your GP to get this checked.

Many of our members have been in similar situations so you are not alone and hopefully some of them will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

I'm not sure if you're been referred to the specialist before but if not I hope this information I've found on what may happen at your appointment will help.

If you have any further questions or would just like to talk things through with someone then you're very welcome to give our cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday betwene 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very friendly and will do all they can to put your mind at ease.

We're thinking of you Salana and will have our fingers crossed for good news.

    All the best,

  • Thank you so much for your reply. I went to my appointment very nervous & the ultrasound was clear thank goodness. The nurse at the breast clinic after my scan said it feels like glandular tissue, had a big cry of relief after leaving. thanks again!

    Hi Salana,

Finding a lump of any kind in your breast is always a worying sign. I am so glad to hear that this one seems glandular. Maybe a warning though, to examine yourself a little more regularly?

Here's hoping that you never have this anxiety again.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
