Core biopsy pain marking me miserable

I have recently had a core biopsy which I felt like I was completely unprepared for how painful and sore it was after recovery. It was an extremely quick procedure and sent home with a small leaflet about what I had done and how to care for the incision site. (This would have been more useful with the appointment letter) I am taking paracetamol but it is so sore it is making me feel so miserable. I went to the appointment on my own and drove home myself, and perhaps have been overdoing it at home with some chores.

I know that are many lovely ladies on this forum suffering much worse than me and I feel so very selfish to post, but can anyone help with how to get through the pain? I am not overly worried about the results however I am not sure how long the wait will be. The consultant found a small lump which they said needed testing to be 100% sure it was okay. Makes sense however if I knew it hurt this bad I would have requested to monitor it with further imaging.

  • Hi,

I have to see a specialist this Wednesday and I'm so worried about a breast biopsy being taken. I've heard the pain is awful.

  • So sorry you are going through such a hard time. You didn't mention where the biopsy was from? I had a number of breast core biopsies a few weeks ago which left me very bruised and tender but not to the extent you are feeling, the procedure was uncomfortable but not painful as they give me a local anaesthetic, this also was fairly painless. I would recommend that If there are specialist nurses attached to your unit then contact them, explain the level of pain you are experiencing and ask for advice. Meanwhile take your paracetamol on a regular basis, take it easy as you can and be kind to yourself. Hope all feels better soon.
