Mouth cancer very worried as symptoms to seem to confirm.

Around 6 -8 weeks ago my husband said his tongue feels like he had bitten it and it was sore but the pain was not too bad. A week or so later he noticed a white lump on his gum where his wisdom tooth was removed many years ago. He went to the dentist around two weeks ago who has referred him straight to the hospital to see a consultant. This appointment is next week.

Since then he tells me the pain in his mouth is very bad and he has to make a great effort to eat at all because it is so painful. He is in aged 66 so is in the right range for this to be mouth cancer and we cannot think what else it could be other than that.

Please post if you recognise any of these symptoms and can give us your experience.

  • Hello immy3,

I see from your post that you are worried about your husband's symptoms. When you are worried about cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers online, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. It might help you feel more prepared to write down your questions and concerns in a notepad and take them with you to the appointment. I hope it goes ok this week. Also these tips here might be useful while you wait.

    Best wishes,
