Swollen groin lymph nodes and very little symptoms

Hi,

I had some bloods taken in September which showed that I had low white blood cells, I said that's no surprise I suffer from neutropenia and once a month at least my white blood cells go low. This is the lowest my neutrophils had ever been at 0.9 instead of  between 2&7. So they put me on a course on antibiotics to boost my immune system.

Needless to say the antibiotics did nothing. However, I noticed just before taking them and just after that I had a lump in my groin. Fast forward a month and it's still there, I went to the doctors they checked me over and actually started to query sepsis luckily it wasn't. They got me to go for some blood tests as I had bilateral swelling of both lymph nodes but without any pain. They have also booked me in for a ultrasound on the 31st October.

They said once they have the results of both the blood test and the scan then they will be able to put a plan into place as to the next steps

I can't help but think the worst as why else would I be getting this random swelling on the lymph glands mainly on one size with a hard immovable lump.

Has anyone got any advice or been in a similar situation regarding the lumps?

Thanks

  • Hello Dragonfly1993 and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am sorry to hear that the antibiotics didn't help but it's good that you went to the doctor's about this lump in your groin. I can imagine you are feeling rather anxious as you are waiting for this ultrasound on the 31st of October as well as the blood test results. I thought I would share with you some helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi there.

Thankyou for the reply. I have since been back and forth to the doctors have had several blood tests and my ultrasound, ultrasound came back clear all blood tests are clear.

So now I have a waiting game to find out what the haematologist are going to do as I'm on a 2 weeks referral and will see them Tuesday 8th November.

My white cell count and especially my neutrophils have been incredibly low, I have got a fever, high blood pressure and a high for me resting heart rate. My doctor today didn't know what to do as he said all my tests have come back normal but I'm still suffering from weight loss, dizziness, tiredness, low white blood cells but no symptoms to show I have a fever or anything like that

In my hospital letter for the haematologist there was a cancer research leaflet included, it has got me thinking and concerned as to whether I have something wrong with my blood and if so what is it.

    Thanks again
