Possible melanoma??

Hello;

I contacted my GP about 2 weeks ago with a mole that's pigmented, not symmetrical, it's very itchy and was 6mm (8mm today) and was referred to dermatology. Today I saw dermatology, I have to have some photos done with Medical Illustration I'm very Moley so think this may be why and have this mole removed/biopsied. Dermatology said they cannot say that it isn't cancer (in those words). I am really worried, I don't even know really what happens now?

  • Hello Dgdjg

I'm sorry to hear that you're waiting for a biopsy for possible melanoma. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about things.

We do have some information on our website about removing your mole which you may find helpful. Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the biopsy appointment and the results will bring some reassurance.

I'm going to tag in one of our members [@AngieT]‍ who has been living with stage 3 melanoma for quite a number of years now. Angie is definitely what I would describe as an expert patient and hopefully she'll reply to share some of her experience and advice with you soon.

In the meantime, if you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Yes I am anxious, I know it won't change anything but I can't help it. I'm going for some photographs at the hospital on Wednesday, I couldn't find any information about this either. I'm sure it'll be straight forward.

    thank you for replying

  • Hi

I'm going through exactly the same right now. I've had a spot of pigmented skin on my cheek for about 6 yrs (just thought it a sun spot) which has recently got darker so went to GP and he thought it looked nothing to worry about but referred me anyway. I went for my pictures on 7th Oct, very straight forward just took pictures with a smart phone with a dermascope (think that what it's called) attached. 10days later I received a message from the hospital saying I'm being booked in for a minor operation/biopsy, no date or anything else. I'm worried sick too. It's really horrible

    Hope you get on ok

  • Ahh it's good to know! I think you did well to get it checked, can never be too sure. I hope everything turns out okay for you. I hope they deal with it quickly, for you. I suffer with severe anxiety and I'm trying my best to remain positive.

The hospital have already said it will need coming off and have given advice leaflets about the procedure, just not given a date yet! The dr also said I may lose some of my tattoo which I'm really not bothered about if I'm honest (It's terrible ).

  • Well we won't have to wait too long for a biopsy date, I'm an anxious person too but like you trying to be positive. It's the waiting that's the worst!

Hopefully all will be fine for us both

  • Yes hopefully, sending lots of luck and love your way. I'll keep you updated xx

  • Thanks, same to you! I'll keep you updated as well xx

  • How are you doing? I'm in for removal tomorrow, they rang me today.

  • Hiya oh that's great news! I've heard absolutely nothing other than getting a letter which was exactly the same as what they text me. I've rang and left a message but no reply yet unfortunately. Hope you get in ok tomorrow

    Dx

  • Oh no! hopefully it'll be soon and that you're not waiting too much longer. It was a cancellation and because I was on the list they asked could I go in. Maybe they do that close to you? I'm in Manchester if that helps. X
