How can I find out what is happening?

Hi everyone,

I had a routine mammogram in August which found calcifications and I was called for follow up tests.  On 7th Sept I had 10 core biopsies taken from the right breast.  These were clear of cancer and identified a Papilloma.  On 30th Sept this was removed using a vacuum assisted biopsy (25 samples - left me in a bit of a mess) and a clip put in. I was waiting for the results of this but have now had an appointment for a further biopsy (stereotactic mammogram) on 10th Nov.  I phoned the breast nurse who told me that all she can see from the MDT is the decision to biopsy again.  I have no idea why.  How can I find this out? My stress levels have soared again

  • Hello SL51

I'm really sorry to hear that you need a further biopsy and that despite contacting the breast care nurse you've not been given any proper answers.

I'd suggest getting in touch with the hospital PALS team. Explain all that's happened and that you're not happy with the lack of communication. Their role is to help resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS. Hopefully they will be able to help before your appointment in 3 weeks. Alternatively, get back in touch with your breast care nurse and explain that you would like some proper information about why further biopsies have been requested.

In the meantime, if you want to talk things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any support and advice they can.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
