Urgent referral

After going on HRT for non stop hot flashes. I've had three heavy bleeds and some spotting after not having a period for over 10 years. My doctor did an urgent referral with should take two weeks after three weeks and not hearing anything i phoned my surgery to say that I haven't been sent an appointment. Only to be told that it's currently taking up to eight to twelve weeks. I am now finding myself unable to sleep and stressed. Has this happened to anyone else?

  • Hello Nanny61,

Welcome to Cancer Chat! You did the right thing to phone your surgery to say you haven't received your appointment yet. It's a shame you are having to wait so long and it's taking up to 12 weeks to be seen and you are finding yourself unable to sleep with the worry. As many people on our forum will know only too well, the wait to be seen and then again for results can feel like a lifetime and there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for news.

I hope that you will hear from others to whom this has happened and that they will share their experience with you. I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. If you feel that the sleep deprivation and anxiety are affecting your quality of life, don't hesitate to talk to your GP about it.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
