Dent in Right Breast

August this year I noticed a slight dent in my right breast above my nipple. Only in the right lighting and only noticable feeling when I stood up and knowing exactly where to touch. I took myself to the nurse at my GP's who confirmed she felt it also. I had also been leaking discharge. I assumed this was simply old milk supply. The nurse believed it to possibly be a change in my breasts after breastfeeding although it has been 2 years since I last breastfed.

Cut to last week, just under 2 months since I last saw the nurse I noticed it was more than double the size it was previously, hard to NOT notice and when touched the skin pits in and doesnt bounce back at all. The same nurse I previously saw, agreed instantly it had speciifcally grown. She placed me on the urgent cancer screening pathway and I have been given my appointment for next Tuesday.

I guess what I'm wodnering is how many people have had bad news after similar symptoms to myself? I am only 30, a single mum to 2. Used to smoke and drink but quit both in the last 4 years. I have recently lost 15kg after a huge weight gain from medication and am relatively fit and healthy now. No history of breast cancer in the family. I guess I'm terrified what this is, even if not the dreaded worst, why does my breats appear to me deteriorating before my eyes?!

Also what can I expect at the breast clinic appointment?

Thanks in advance.

J.

  • Hi [@purplepickles]‍

ANY change to the breast requires investigation now, not just a lump so it is totally the right thing that you have been referred.

Breast clinics are normally a one stop shop now. You will be seen by a consultant who will do a physical exam then a mammogram and ultrasound. Depending on what they see, possibly a biopsy too. By the end of the appointment, you will have a good idea of what they have found (or not). Majority of the time, changes are benign but is always, always best to check.

    Good Luck x
