Help and support

Hi all , I have not had a diagnosis of ovarian cancer, however I am worried... Few months back I started with lower abdomen pains similar to period type pains, and a sharp pain that's lasted around three weeks on my left side. I spoke to gp as I was concerned I may have a cyst or that my symptoms could be related the contraceptive implant I have. I had an ultrasound which picked up something on my left ovary, this was inconclusive but they have questioned a dermoid cyst, my Dr did a ca125 test which came back low at 8 , she said if that was high she would refer me immediately to specialist but also said the tests aren't accurate!  She also ordered an urgent CT scan, 6 weeks later I still haven't had my appointment for CT let alone anywhere near finding out what these results could mean ! I'm so stressed and worried now at this point, thinking that if this is something worry some I've been left too long! I personally think I should of been referred to a specialist regardless of the ca125 test as they are unsure what is even on my ovary ! Please does anyone have any experience like this? Should I have been seen sooner?

Thank you for reading ️

  • In the same boat with my mum since July. Constant bloating and pelvic pain . Gone from a size 18 to a 12 unintentional and looking frail. Still waiting. It's an absolute joke I feel like going in her surgery and going mental to be honest. They just seem to not take these symptoms seriously when they absolutely should be!

  • Hi Nina, sorry to hear this ! Has she been for an ultrasound yet? It's just not good enough is it! Especially with your mum's symptoms. I waited around 2 months for my ultrasound appointment, missed two because of my own fault. it was in may I called Dr with symptoms and had scan in September... results were back in one hour I had a text from surgery to book phone slot with my Dr, she called me two day later and ordered this urgent CT scan, and this is where I'm at now it's been 6 weeks and I've still no CT appointment it's so frustrating!

  • Hi it is absolutely not good enough. Sorry to hear you are in this horrible in between also. When I had a lumpy area in my breast my GP was 99% it was just fatty tissue but referred  me for a 2 week referral and I was checked out within 3 days anyway. I don't understand why ovarian symptoms are not taken as seriously like others are when they are potentially more deadly?!

she has been waiting 5 weeks since the DR mentioned ultrasound but still I don't understand why she (and you) were not put on the 2 week list.  She eventually used a private Dr to get the ca125 but cannot afford to do all the other tests privately and nor should she have to she's paid into this system for 40 odd years and never used it!

im so angry and scared right now it's all consuming.

I really hope you will find out soon more information, you should keep calling and putting pressure on. I cannot as my mum will not allow me but I wish I would.

    kind regards Nina

  • It's not, and I know it's so wrong. I had the exact same years ago, Dr found lump and I was seen, scanned and given the all clear on the two week pathway so I've been thinking exactly the same why don't they do this for ovarian issues ??? And I mean the actually know there's something on my ovary aswel and still waitin around, although she did say nothing on the scan said that it looked suspicious but it was inconclusive so as far as I'm concerned they should treat it seriously until cancer has been rules out I have ibs too so some of my symptoms I think could be because of that, but I just don't know for sure. Really hope your mum has her scan soon I think mine took about 8 weeks to come through. Exactly she shouldn't have to pay! Scans are expensive private aswel was the level low? Mine was at 8 so low atleast.
