Enlarged lymphnode

Hi, i'm 19 years old and i've had a lump at the crook of my jaw below my ear since May 2021 when i first got it checked. The doctor said it was a lymph node and not to worry about it, but I never felt like he examined me properly. The lump is still here, and it is hard to the touch, immovable, and also painless. The lump is always there regardless of wether I am ill or not. Is there a possibly it's simply a lymph node that will stay like that, as in it got enlarged and then never went done?

Obviously I've looked online and seen the typical diagnosis of lumps like that and it's always some form of cancer. But I haven't really had any other symptoms. I have an appointment booked at a different GP surgery for 10 days time but every day i'm getting increasingly worried, there's so little information online about other possible causes and at 19 years old the idea of possibly having cancer is quite scary.

Just wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this before with a lymph node.

  • Welcome to the forum Anonhs although I'm very sorry for the worry your lymph node is causing.

Lymph nodes are quite a common talking point within our community - just use the search forum option in the purple bar above to find discussions about this - so I hope you can take some comfort from knowing you are not alone and hopefully some of our members will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

You're welcome to discuss this further with one of our nurses on 0808 800 4040 (phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.) but I hope this information will help keep your nerves and worries at bay in the meantime.

Waiting for appointments is always tough but we're thinking of you Anonhs and hope all goes well next week.
