Hard lump appeared on arm

Hi

UPDATE - Saw GP Friday she has sent an urgent referral for a scan. Hopefully won't have too long to wait for it.

2 days ago I noticed a lump on my lower arm just below my elbow.

It is 4 x 5 cm and is hard but absolutely no pain whatsoever. The lump is under the skin.

I Have an appointment in a couple of weeks for it to be seen. But obviously concerned it could be a cancerous lump.

Anyone else had the same ? What was the outcome?

Thanks in advance

  • Hello aouaj04

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found a lump. It's good to hear that you already have an appointment arranged and hopefully when you see the Dr they will be able to give you some reassurance about things.

It's natural to be concerned that this lump may be something nasty but remember that there could be many other reasons you've developed this lump. The important thing now is that you've arranged to get this checked.

Hopefully you will have some good news soon.

    Best wishes,

  • HI Aouaj,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

As our mediator, Jenn, has already said there are many other things that this could be due to, besides cancer. I developed a lump in my left arm 10 years ago and, like you, my mind immediately honed in on cancer, especially as I'd already had 2 bouts of breast cancer. I had it biopsied and was relieved to find that it was just a lipoma (a fatty lump). It has never gone away, but I've been reassured over the years that it is still ok.

Waiting to find out is always a worrying time, but I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you - I keep reminding myself that it could be a host of other things . I am hoping it is just a fatty lump or something like that. It is just it grows every day and is a hard lump. But I will try to keep calm until I have had my doctors appointment x

    Hi Aouaj,

Are you being seen by a dermatologist or your GP? I sincerely hope that all your worry is for nothing. Please let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

  • I have made an appointment with my GP but typically I have agoraphobia and my husband is away at the minute so not able to make oe until he is back as I need him to drive me to the surgery. So appointment is not until the 4th November (but I do think this is a good time as if it is because I have bumped my arm or something then maybe it will go by then) . The lump just appeared at the weekend so it will be 3 weeks since it appeared that I have my appointment.

Thank you for your reply and will keep you all updated.

    Hi Aouaj,

What a pity that you couldn't get an earlier appointment, but at least you have one. If your GP is at all doubtful, s/he will refer you to see a dermatologist, who can check this out for you. Unfortunately, this might mean that you have to wait a little longer to get any answers.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you in the meantime.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you Jolamine.

Yes to put my mind at rest I would have preferred an earlier one. However as I said I am thinking by the time I have my appointment it will have been 3 weeks that I have had the lump which will give it time if it is just as a result of knocking it it may have gone down.

I am also measuring it each day - the actual measurements may not be accurate as I don't have a tape measure so having to use a guide and an online ruler but I want to see if it grows and the first day it grew half a centimetre from elbow to arm, then it stayed the same yesterday the measurements across the arm stayed the same both days. This morning both measurements have increased another half centimetre. So it now shows as 5.5cm/5.5cm. So this is another thing by waiting until the 3 weeks I can let him know of growth over a considerable time. This may help guide him. Obviously I pray it is a fatty lump of some sort but I also know it possibly is cancerous. I have had cancerous bladder tumours so know it is possible. So therefore keen to get a right diagnosis early so if it is the C Word hopefully it can be treated as maybe it will have been picked up early enough.

    Hi Aouaj,

I am sorry to hear about your bladder tumours. I have also had 2 bouts of breast cancer, so it doesn't always mean bad news.

    Kind regards,
