Advice please Bone marrow biopsy 0.4 neutrophils result

Hi Everyone,

i've known for about a year that I've had a low white blood cell count. However, it has come to my attention quite late in fact that this has been going on for four years.

I was referred to a haematologist back in March and have since been in hospital on an IV of antibiotics and had repeat infections since.

I had my haematology consultation last week Monday, where I was told that my neutrophils was a 0.4 and that I had abnormally large red blood cells. I have since received a letter saying that I have to attend a bone marrow biopsy.

I'm nervous and worried to say the least.

I've done my research and have kind of put everything together. It's just starting to make sense to me.

Why I always feel tired and why I'm getting sick all the time, and why I look pale in the face and exhausted, and why I keep getting rashes small little patches on my arms and legs that seem to just disappear after a few days. I also have joint pain and lower back and neck pain which just never seems to go away and keeps getting worse.

Can anybody advise if they've gone through this and what their outcomes were as I'm worried it might be leukaemia at the very worst, but also some type of anaemia.

  • Hello Pixie1997 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your bone marrow biopsy. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to find out more.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be as there could be so many other things than leukaemia which could explain your symptoms. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Sorry to hear you're going through a similar situation.

Was it painful at all? Did they keep you in most of the day?

  • Thank you Lucie.

it's hard and I know I shouldn't be relying on doctor google but curiosity got the best of me.
