Partner with ovarian cyst and high CA 125

Hi everyone,

My partner has history of endometriosis and ovarian cysts. She's previously had one of her ovaries removed due to a complex ovarian cyst that had grown up to 8cm. Unfortunately, she now has a 4cm cyst on her right ovary and following an ultrasound, they doctor said it looks like a complex cyst. They then called her for a blood test and her CA 125 levels were high enough for her GP to send her for an urgent referral to rule out cancer. My wife was on her period when the blood test was taken and she also has endometriosis and obviously the cyst. We are hoping that's why her CA 125 were high and it's nothing sinister like cancer. She is 38 years old and the GP said while the risk of cancer is low, that we need to rule it out. When they removed her cyst 5 years ago, they did a biopsy on it and said that it wasn't cancerous.

I have been struggling and I'm sure she is as well constantly thinking about it but I remind myself that I need to be strong for the both of us. The wait however is killing me and I can't help but looking things up on Google.

She's not had any of the other cancer symptoms like weight loss, constipation, bleeding and so on. She does feel bloated sometimes but again I think that's because of her endo however that's not always the case and is only when it's around her period time.

I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience and if they can offer some words of advice.

Thank you for listening

  • Hi areaz,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can imagine this must be concerning and I know the waiting and uncertainty is difficult.

There will be others on here who have been through something similar, so hopefully you'll receive some more replies soon. You can also browse the forum, or search (using the button in the blue bar above) to find other relevant discussions, which may be helpful.

Try to take things a day at a time, and avoid looking things up on Google as this often only increases worries.

I hope it's not long to wait until you find out more.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi Ben,

Thanks for the advice. I have been reading through other people's posts and it has offered some peace of mind.

My wife's appointment with the gynae is tomorrow where we will find out what the next steps will be.

  • I have had bilateral complex ovarian cysts found unexpectedly during a colonoscopy the colorectal nurse specialist referred me to gynaecology oncology. After more scans I was listed for surgery l am 69 had lost weight, had left sided pain although my bloods were ok.
The operation took over 4 1/2 hrs due to extensive adhesions and everything being stuck together, due to previous surgery  Fortunately the multiple biopsies were benign.
l hope you have a similar outcome

    take care susie

  • Thanks for sharing Susie, hope that you are in the best of health now.

Praying that it all goes well today and that we have a similar outcome.
