Does cancer weight loss continue to drop?

Hi there asking for my 59 yr old mum again

dr initially said the area her pain was towards the ovary , she has had her ca125 it's normal. They also done a stool sample which was normal and a internal pelvic exam. She has been refered for an endoscopy on the 11th nov and still waiting for a transvaginal ultrasound.

this time last year she weighed around 12 stone 8. I started worrying in July when noticed her shoulders looked very frail & small and weighed her and she was 11 stone 2. Since then she's gone up to 11 stone 7 but then down again to 11 stone 4/5 and stayed stable at that. Does cancer weight normally stabilise or keep dropping?

she has also had low pelvic pains and constant bloating but the GP seems unconcerned

thanks Nina

  • The reason "some" cancers cause weight loss is down to the tumours requiring high amounts of energy compared to normal cells. Another common reason is it could be causing a blockage/issue which can directly affect people's appetite or their ability to keep food down.

I'm no expert, but i would assume weight would continue to drop until such a time it was either being treated or medication began to affect the person's weight (steroids etc)
