    Hi SD70,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am glad to hear that you have already attended the breast clinic and are now in the awful position of waiting on your results. There really is no point in trying to second guess the outcome. Many people have naturally lumpy breasts, but no sign of cancer. Even surgeons cannot always give an accurate diagnosis, until they see the results of your biopsy.

As someone who has had 2 bouts of breast cancer myself, I appreciate what an an axious time this is and, how our imaginations tend to run away from us. Try to keep yourself as busy as you can to take your mind off of the wait.

It is a known fact that only 1 person in every 8 who attend the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis, so here's hoping that you will be one if the lucky ones.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thankyou Jolamine for your message. How long after biopsies does the achy pain last ,my breast is tender and achy .I've also got thickening on my nails ,which I've heard is Beau's lines and can be due from ageing or a serious illness .Just want the results so I can deal with the results .x

    Hi SD70,

I have had a number of biopsies and have found the discomfort after varies from one time to the next. I expect that it's a bit like the reaction to a blood test or a vaccination and it depends on who carries out the procedure. It also varies from person to person, as we all have different pain thresholds. Mine lasted from a few weeks to a few months. There are a number of different reasons for Beau's lines, so try not to let this worry you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi SD70,

Waiting for results is always a difficult time for all of us. All cancers are individual to that person, so my history may not be of much help to you.

I was diagnosed with grade 1, breast cancer 12 years ago, after finding a lump in my breast whilst showering. I had a lumpectomy and then took Tamoxifen for a year. I discovered a lump in my other breast 6 months later, which turned out to be benign after biopsy. Almost a year to the date of my first surgery, I discovered another lump in my original breast and unfortunately, that was another primary cancer. I had a double mastectomy at this stage, because my surgeon felt that the lump in my other breast could have been pre-cancerous. I then took Letrozole for 6 ½ years. Fortunately, mine hadn't spread to my lymph nodes.

I still lead a busy and fulfilled life.

I can understand your worries, but hope that all turns out well for you on Friday. Please let us know how you get on. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Bevdawn,

I am sorry to hear that you have been down this road too. I must agree that the thought of the possibilities is always far worse than knowing and that the staff in most of the breast clinics are so understanding and reassuring.

I'm glad to hear that you had no bother after your lumpectomy. We all react differently and, as I said above, I hae had different reactions on different occasions.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thankyou jolamine ,Glad your doing well now ,did you not need chemo or radiotherapy?  I've been reading up on everything but still so much to take in .Everyone I've spoken to that have had a lump in there breast we're told it was benign but they didn't have a lump in the lymph glands like me .I can't feel a lump there so was shocked when I was told there was one .SD

    Hi SD70,

I was advised to have radiotherapy after the first bout, but due to procedural errors, never had it. Only 1% of people have my type of breast cancer - Pure Mucinous and it is less aggressive than other types, so I didn't need chemo.

There is a lot to take in and, no matter how much you read, every cancer is different and specific to the individual who has it. It comes as a great shock to us all to think that we might have cancer  but treatments have come a long way.

You will be glad that you don't have much longer to wait for the results. This is one of the worst parts of the cancer journey.

Thinking of you and hoping for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
