Breast Lumps and changes, health anxiety or real?

So I've been lurking this forum the last few days and I've finally worked up the nerve to post I just wanted to hear other people's experiences.

I have quite bad health anxiety, which I'm in therapy for, so I struggle to know what's real and what's in my head

im 28 and do checks every day, about two weeks I found a hard lump in my right breast. Had it checked at the drs. She didn't even do a full check, just felt the lump and referred me straight away to the 2ww clinic. Listed a few things that it could be but didn't say what she thought it was. I have my appointment Thursday but my mind keeps spiralling!

ive obviously been keeping a close eye on it. It's not moveable, doesn't hurt but is quite tender after being poked. I've noticed a small dent appear on my nipple this week. Also I've been feeling under the weather for a couple of months, and had painful glands. Blood tests all came back fine though.

Has anyone had the same sort of thing and it be fine or just anxiety?

  • Hi,

I've had a few family members be referred to the breast clinic under the 2 week wait, and it was fine for them (mostly cysts I think). 1 in 8 referrals turn out to be something more serious, so I tried to remember that it was more likely than not it would be fine (easier said than done I know!)

One thing I would say is the staff at my appointment were wonderful, they could see I was nervous and did everything they could to make it as pleasant as possible, which helps!

Sending you lots of love for Thursday, I hope the appointment goes well x

    Hoo Goose,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

Once we discover a lump of any sort, there is always the temptation to keep poking it which does make it tender. I am glad to hear that your wait to be seen at the breast clinic is nearly over and hope that all goes well for you tomorrow.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
