Inverted nipple on and off

Hiya,

I've been reading so many of these types of questions on this forum but I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light as I'm a 31 year old new mum to a 7 month old and I've noticed my right breast my nipple inverts normally when lying down or when I'm wearing a bra/crop top. I'm not breastfeeding, I have no discharge and no significant lump although I can feel something which I don't know if it is breast tissue or just that I'm checking my breasts so close to my period being due. I'm going out of my mind with worry I have my appointment at the breast clinic Wednesday morning. Being a new mum my biggest worry is my son if it was to be anything. Has anyone else had this happen after pregnancy or during and if so can she's some light to just make the anxiety a little less dibilitating.

thank you

  • Hi Bec,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand your concerns - it's good to hear you have an appointment coming up soon, this is of course the best way to provide some answers and hopefully peace of mind. If you feel you'd like to talk to someone ahead of that, you are welcome to give our nurses a call on 0808 800 4040 (Monday-Friday, 9-5).

Otherwise, hopefully you'll receive more replies here soon, particularly if others have similar experience to share.

    Wishing you all the best,

  •   hey, how did it all go at your examination? I’m going to the breast clinic for the same thing so was just wondering how you got on? X

  • Hiya Katie,

I understand how worrying it is right now. I hope I can help a little bit.

I'm still under 6 month surveillance but mine turned out to be a papilloma which was in one of my ducts. I had biopsies taken and they said it was very very small but could cause the nipple tp be pulled inward. Nothing has come of it at the moment but I go back every 6 months. They also said that sometimes a nipple inverting can just happen and is no cause for concern but you are doing the right thing by getting checked. They are all so lovely and make you feel very comfortable.

I hope this isn’t too much to ask or too personal but does your nipple come back out? You may have very similar to me if that is the case.

Try not to worry too much I know it’s so scary but you will feel better once you have been seen.

sending lots of love to you.

  • Hi Becca,

thank you so much for taking the time to respond to me.

I’m really glad that they found nothing serious for you.

yeah my nipple still comes out it just looks like a big slit in the middle if that makes sense?

it’s the waiting around which is horrible - would rather get seen sooner rather than later!

  • You are so welcome.

The waiting really is the worst part. Your own thoughts can cause havoc on you. I know exactly how you are feeling. It is totally normal and you aren’t alone in how anxious you feel.

Mine is exactly the same and still is. The consultant said it may never go back to normal and might just be this way now.

I really hope you get similar or better news than I did.

please do keep me updated and if you ever want to chat privately about any concerns or worries you have let me know and I will be happy to do that. This is my 3rd time going to the breast clinic. Been before for lumps etc so I know how daunting it can be.

  • Hello, sorry I know this post is old but I was just wondering if anything came of your nipple? This sounds exactly like me slit like nipple happened when I was pregnant.

    Hope all is well x

  • Sorry also BHM I think my situation sounds similar to you in that I have been seen to have a papilloma underneath my nipple but was not told this could cause an inverted nipple so it is interesting you were told this.

Did you have to have yours removed?

Thank you, Hope you are all doing well x

    Hiya,

I had 3 biopsies taken which led to being told it was a papilloma. I was then booked in to have it removed but when I went back and was scanned again they could no longer locate it. They said i s so tiny it may have been removed during the biopsies. I have been going every 6 months for scans and still no reoccurrence. Which is scary and worrying as it was once there and now it isn’t ‍♀️. My nipple still inverts and mine also started during my pregnancy and they told me this can happen as hormones change etc.

    Hiya,

when they found the papilloma they said it was so tiny that it was really hard to detect. When I went in about my inverted nipple they told me that the papilloma was so close to my nipple that it was pulling it back which doesn’t seem to make much sense now as after the biopsies they can no longer find it and my nipple still inverts. I go every 6 months for scans etc to make sure it doesn’t come back or they don’t find it again. It’s all a bit strange I must say and doesn’t really make much sense to me. I’m due for another scan end of November so fingers crossed nothing is found again and that since pregnancy it is just going to be something my nipple now does.

doesn’t really put your mind at rest that one minute it was there and then now it isn’t ‍♀️.

What have they said regarding your papilloma?xxxx
