Worried I have Hodgkin's lymphoma

Hi all I don't really know where to start this, I suffer with health anxiety but I just can't Shake the feeling that something is wrong, and worried I could have something more sinister, I developed a small marble sized movable lump along my jawline, you cannot see it but I can feel it when I rub along my jaw, I've been to several doctors over the past Id say 6 years, and all they've done is feel it and tell me not to worry that it's just a swollen gland/lymph node, I guess I kind of worry as my uncle was brushed off by doctors telling him he was fine and died months later after being diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer, I'm only 22 and have a wonderful 6 month old daughter, the thought of being I'll is making me extremely anxious and scared that I will end up dying and not get to see her grow up, the lump has not increased in size over the years, but I have had some minor itching some days that typically goes away pretty quickly and when I feel and look at my armpits, they don't look swollen or different from eachother but the only way I can describe it is that the left armpit(the same side as the jaw lump) just feels different? Like it just doesn't feel the same as the right side(I know that probably doesn't make sense) I've also had some very slight aches in my thigh bone on the left side and also my calf bone, I really don't know if I'm just worrying over nothing and should just trust all of those doctors? Or should I go back to the doctors and get it checked again? I feel like I've asked every doctor in the doctors practice:( sorry for the long post oh I'd like to also mention I also got an X-ray from an oral surgeon/dentist who told me the reason the node could be swollen was because of my fully impacted wisdom teeth which could be hitting off the node/gland, but if that's the case wouldn't the right side be swollen also? I'm just so scared and feel like I can't trust the doctors for some reason which is just horrible :( thanks for any comments

  • Hello Ruby2328 and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

It sounds like you are going through a rather stressful time and it's reassuring that all the doctors you have seen over the years have told you not to worry and that it's just a swollen lymph node. The story of what happened to your uncle seems to have scarred you a little and made you worry that the same thing would happen to you but doctors usually get it right so it may just be your health anxiety making you worry so much. It's worth perhaps talking to your GP about this debilitating health anxiety and seeing whether there is anything they can suggest to help you overcome it.

Try and have faith in what the doctors have told you as it seems like you have already sought several opinions on this but perhaps go back to your GP to talk about the anxiety this is causing you and to seek help for that.

I hope that you will also hear from other forum members who have had similar symptoms before and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
