Worried - thyroid / lymph / something else

Hi - I'm a 38 year old mum to one. About 6 weeks ago I started taking thyroid medication due to high TSH. I had awful niggling headaches for a few weeks and then thankfully they stopped. But I started itching horrendously. It started in my hands, but would move to scalp or back. Always one area at a time. And I am running hot - not temperature, just feel like I am. no night sweats, just running warm throughout.

The dr told me to come off the thyroid pills and I started taking an antihistamine which has really helped. But it's still happening. And now I have a painful neck and, I think, a swollen lymph below my right ear (which also feels full and odd).

I'm so scared I have cancer. I had full bloods done just before starting the thyroid pills and nothing else was amiss, and I've just had another set done to test for antibodies in addition. I also had my flu jab which I wonder whether could have triggered the lymph swelling.

But all I can think is cancer, despite wanting to remind myself that this all kicked off within weeks of me starting thyroid medication.

I wondered if anyone else has similar experience to this. Or alternatively could just tell me to calm the **** down .

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Bmco,

It's good to hear you are in touch with your doctor about this - they will be the only one who can advise on this. It sounds like you've had some reassurance in terms of the results.

If you feel you're still concerned or have questions, then talk all this through at your next appointment with the doctor - it's important to get peace of mind and and understanding of when the symptoms will ease.

    Wishing you all the best,
