Waiting game

Hi all, reading through some of these posts is so inspiring.

I myself am wondering how long people have waited for their biopsy results?

My story so far...

Im 37 a non smoker and normally very fit and healthy. I had a Uti in June which was abnormal for me being crowned the hydration Queen by all who know me.  I then started with an on off right sided abdo pain and one evening I had some severe pain after sex. I immediately took a pregnancy test, a second Uti test. These were both negative. I wondered if I might have pcos as my mum has polycystic kidneys. I knew the GP would want more tests writing off before sending me for any further testing so I got tested for STIs and a smear. My last smear was 6 years ago, being put back after a stressful few years divorcing and moving. My smear came back as having HPV and a colposcopy booked.

On entering the appointment I was told by the nurse that abnormal cells had been detected in both the upper and lower cervix and that they wanted to do the lettz procedure for biopsies. I asked that since they could only treat the lower and cells have been detected in parts of the cervix they couldn't see at the appointment what happens next  they couldn't say and asked that I try to keep positive until my results.

I'm booked in for an urgent ultrasound next week, can they tell you anything at the appointment?

I was told at the colposcopy appointment that it would be between 4-6weeks have people been waiting this long?

  • Hi Soph84,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear you've received an approximate timeline from the specialist about when to receive results. This is a guideline, but hopefully you will hear more sooner rather than later.

You can ask any questions you have at the ultrasound appointment, but usually you would need to wait for a separate follow-up appointment to get any results.

I know the waiting and uncertainty is never easy to deal with - hopefully you'll get some more replies here soon, particular if others with similar experience see the post.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
