Corpus luteum or something else? Ongoing strange symptoms

Hi guys, happy Tuesday!

I was told the results on my transvaginal/pelvic ultrasound that I have a small corpus luteum cyst on my right ovary. Everything else looked good apparently. Ovary size was fine etc. No free fluid. Was also told I most likely have pelvic inflammatory disease that's just taking a while to resolve.

I thought this would be satisfying enough for me but not really. During the wait for the ultrasound I started to develop pressure under my ribs which is especially bad on my right side. I saw a gyn and he told me it could be infection that has ascended upwards (I have been messed around for 3 months on various antibiotics with no proper diagnosis so makes sense I think). Was given more strong antibiotics but it didn't do anything apart from make me feel worse. Shouldn't it have worked

I've to see the gynaecologist again on the 21st of October but it seems so long away.  I'm also nervous I might have been misdiagnosed on the ultrasound and my cyst is something a bit more sinister due to my symptoms. I have been told ultrasounds can miss certain things? I know CA-125 isn't really reliable but mines was 17.7. I am also 27 with no kids. Blood tests have been fine. Took a FIT test due to the gut issues and that was normal too. Calprotectin normal. I don't understand!

Also corpus luteum cysts look scary?!! My progestin implant clearly doesn't help with preventing cysts... My gyn told me it probably even caused it!  guess it's time for me to switch up contraception. Has anyone else been through similar Xx

  • Hello Rebecca95,

A big welcome to our forum! I think it is reassuring that you were told that everything looked good apart from that small cyst in your ovary and that there was nothing concerning. It's good that you have an appointment with a gynaecologist especially as the antibiotics didn't work. I can imagine the 21st of October seems like a long way away, but it won't be too long now before you see the specialist and get some definite answers. The wait can feel agonizingly long though and there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

It's unlikely that you have been misdiagnosed or that the ultrasound missed anything and it's reassuring too that your blood tests and the FIT test have been fine. If you are really worried, there is also the possibility of asking for a second opinion. It may be as your gynaecologist seems to think that the implant caused the cysts and this is something you can maybe discuss during your appointment on the 21st. In the meantime, I hope that you will hear from others who have been through something similar and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out to be fine.

    Best wishes,
