Wait for biopsy results

Good evening,

I posted a few weeks back about my 11yr old daughter having a suspected sarcoma in her knee, well she had an exisional biopsy on Thursday and the tumor had grown since August but there was also quite a build up of calcium so I was told the biopsy results would take a bit longer. Does anyone have any idea how long this could take?  Thank you x

  • Hello MrsGBarlow

I'm sorry to hear that following your daughter's biopsy last week you were told that there had been some further tumour growth over the past 2 months. It's understandably a difficult time for you all at the moment and we know that waiting for results can be a particularly anxious time for many people.

If you've not been given any kind of idea about a time frame in which you might have some news then I think within 2-3 weeks is a very reasonable time frame to get in touch with the Consultant's secretary and ask for an update. Even if the results aren't available, at least that way you will know roughly when you might hear some news.

Hopefully the results won't take too long and the team will then be able to give you some firm answers about a diagnosis and the next steps.

Don't forget that if you need to talk things through with someone at any point you're most welcome to call our nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I know they will be happy to offer a listening ear and give any advice and support that they can.

I hope you have some news soon. Keep in touch and let us know.

    Best wishes,
