Been recalled for a second breast biopsy.

Dear all.

I'm going out of my mind with worry.

I had a breast biopsy taken on the 8th of September, only found out today I have to go for another Vacuum-assisted biopsy.

I'm now crazy with worry, literally going out of my mind.

Has anyone had a similar experience, and should I expect the worst?

Thank you for taking the time to read this comment.

  • Hi Gerry I am in same position, I went for a routine mammogram on 2nd september and was recalled for a core needle biopsy, ultrasound and more detailed mammogram on 9h sept as they had found something in my left breast,dr said didnt look like a cyst and thought it looked benign, got a phone call on 14th sept and they wanted me to go for a ultrasound vacuum assited biopsy on 21st sept as first biopsy inconclusive, I asked if could be cancerous and she said it was right in the middle and needed to get to bottom of what they had found, so i  have had 12 samples took on wednesday and a metal clip inserted in my breast where they took the samples from and another mammogram,I got a letter today and an appointment has been made for me to see a breast surgery team member at surgical outpatients department on 28th sept, really don't know what to expect.

  • Hi Alison.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I was told I have a slight abnormalitie in my right breast so had the core needle biopsy on the 8th of September. It's been 15 days today, so I called the the breast care nurses for an update. They said they'd tried calling in the week, but I wasn't left any messages to call them back?
I can't believe I haven't even got an appointment yet for the second biopsy. I was told today by the nurse, it's probably because of the bank holiday and postal strikes. Not really the news I wanted to hear. She told me if I haven't heard by next Tuesday to call them back and they will chase it up for me. In the meantime I'm going out of my mind with worry.

I have everything crossed that it's good news for you on the 28th. You take care of yourself Alison, I really do Appreciate your reply x

  • Hi Gerry

I found a lump and at my appointment was told straight away I had breast cancer. I then had to go back to have the same has you on another area. Mine did come back has another tumour. Less invasive then the first one with mircocalcifications. You're area may just be showing calcifications that they want to check out. This doesn't mean you have cancer tho they could be Benign or pre cancerous cells. Please try not to stress out too much they will give you all the answers. All the best

  • Hi,

Thank you so much for your reply. You actually having a diagnosis of breast cancer, how are you so positive?

I really do think people like yourself are wonderful, trying to help and comfort others when things aren't great for themselves.

I've never had a positive attitude in my life about anything, suffering with mental health doesn't help at all.

I really do wish you all the best with your treatment, wishing you a very happy and healthy future ️ x

  • I have had my bad days I have bad anxiety.

i have my surgery Wednesday having a plan and dates help. Something is being done to fight back. I have a lovely surgeon too and breast care nurses. I try and stay calm but sometimes I am not successful. Helping others is something I hope to do in the future. Being young ish to have breast cancer has knocked me. I'm 38. I wish you all the best but do try to stay calm more times then not lumps are benign and so are calcifications of the breast. Let us know how you get on.

    Tracey

  • Hi Tracey.

38 is so young to be going through this  I'm 51 myself.

Well you are an inspiration to others, certainly helping me think more positive. I wish you all the best on Wednesday that everything goes well.

Its comforting talking about this, rather than stewing in self pity.

All the best with everything, will give you updates on my diagnosis. Would love to know how you are doing too x

  • I will definitely update and yes please do keep us updated. If you need any help with anything please ask and if I know I will help

  • Hi Gerry,

I am just responding as in a similar situation.  I had a routine mammogram on 24th August and was recalled for further exploration.  I had another mammogram, an ultrasound and a needle biopsy on 7th September.  An appointment was given for the results on 11th October ... I was hoping the slow pace meant good news.  I phoned the breast nurse to see if I could find out anymore (hoping they could share good news over the phone) but at that point found I hadn't been discussed at MDT.  The nurse kindly called me to tell me that they haven't found any cancer cells BUT they are not sure so I now have to go for a vacuum assisted biopsy (appointment is on Friday).   The appointment on 11th October has been cancelled.

I feel very much as you do.  Although I have had some good news I still feel I have not made much progress in the last 3weeks as I am still awaiting additional tests and life is on hold.  I just wonder if you could phone the breast nurses at the hospital again and talk to them? I only know that the first samples are not cancerous by talking to them ...the letters told me nothing!

Also - top tip - I was told my a breast care nurse that they can't leave a message on the answer phone unless it is personalised so they know it is you.  Also save their number in your contacts so you can recognise a missed call (although sometimes number is withheld).

Let me know how you get on.

  • Hi Sarah.

Thank you so much for your reply.

It's awful to think so many people are going through the same stress and anguish as myself. I hope it's good news for you once you've had the second biopsy

The breast care nurse told me over the phone, the results didn't match what they could see on the mammogram? I was in so much shock at the time I didn't think to ask what the results where?

I'm not waiting until Tuesday to call the breast care nurses as suggested. I'm going to call back in the morning with a clearer head and ask questions.

Thank you again for your reply, let's hope we all have good news after biopsy's and treatment.

    Fingers crossed for everyone

    Gerry x

  • It does sound very similar doesn't it? If it was the other way round and it didn't look like cancer but they found cells then surely they would move to treatment?

I asked the Radiologist during my biopsy if they could tell by looking and she said that sometimes she thought it was cancerous and the biopsy was negative she would always speak up and request further tests.  She took 12 samples with the needle biopsy so I felt at the time she was thinking it is cancer rather than confirming it isn't.  But negative thinking seems to be the norm at the moment .

I guess there are lumps which look like cancer but aren't...let's hope that's all we both have ...

I hope your appointment comes through quickly and you get some positive answers ...

    Sarah
