Husband referred for a CT scan Terrified.

Hi everyone,

My husband has had symptoms such as wheezing, cough swollen polyps. Often these are triggered by dust/mild sometimes deep frying of some food. Prior to the pandemic the doctor had prescribed him the blue and brown inhalers to give relief from wheezing whilst they were working on the diagnosis to check if it was allergies. Then the pandemic happened and we never heard from the doctor. Fast forward to last year we moved to a different city due to work and I was pregnant, i noticed my husband lost weight and became less active than before. He went for a check up and the doctor ordered a chest x ray Nd blood test.  After the x ray which was about 4 weeks ago my husband took the walk in this morning and the doctor said they noticed some hazing in the thoracic region, she probably suspects swollen nymph nodes and has asked for a CT scan. His blood sugar levels are high as well.He does cough about once or less a day but the doctor said that could be due to phlegm.

This is causing me severe anxiety should I be worried, I am diagnosed with severe generalised anxiety and this isn't helping. Can someone please help I am so scared all I want is for my husband to be happy and healthy. I love him more than anything.

  • Hello Krupa and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am sorry to hear you are feeling so anxious and I hope that you find out very soon what is causing your husband's symptoms. It's normal to be scared at the moment as you are going through this phase of uncertainty waiting to find out what the CT scan results will show.

It sounds like the pandemic delayed things at the time and it's a shame you never heard back from the doctor then. At least things are moving fast now and he seems to be in very good hands. It's good they are being thorough by ordering a chest X Ray.

I hope that your husband won't need to wait too long for his appointment and that he will then get his results quickly. I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be as there are so many treatable conditions that could explain his symptoms. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are also helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine for your husband.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Krupa, although this is not nice, don't worry so much as it should all be dealt with fairly easily. I was in the same position for may years, even after having polyps remived, I had the breathing problems return.

The ventolin and salbutomol will help, but these symtoms do take time as the chest and synus area are so delicate with some people.

If the polyps do need removing, it will help a lot and he may be luck enough not to need a great deall more, but after many years of breathing problems, I am still hera at 81 and hope for  a few more years yet. Please don't let the anxiety build up. I know how easy it can as my wife also suffers withthis and depression, but there are drugs that can help if necessary,Venlafaxine and Risperidone, thatyour doctor can consider if really needed. Good luck.
