Urgent referral gynaecology

Hi, I'm 34 and have had issues with bloating, painful periods and almost entirely unable to be intimate with my husband due to pain.

I've been fighting to find out what's wrong and finally after 10 years my new gp (I moved area) said she 100% thinks its endometriosis. She referred me for an ultrasound which I had done last week.

The lady who did it when she got to my left ovary her expression changed and she spent ages taking measurements and pictures and told me my gp would be intouch.

Yesterday my gp called, she did the usual how you feeling etc, did they tell you anything during the scan. Then told me my left ovary is abnormal and very enlarged, she expressed deep concern and rushed me into the surgery to take bloods, like a full MOT of bloods. She said cancer is her biggest concern, the size, shape and texture of my abnormal ovary points to it.

I got a call 15 minutes after I spoke to the gp and it was urgent referral team confirming my details and said it would be passed to the consultant.

Has anyone else had this happen then be totally fine? Just panic from the gp. Right now I'm numb I guess, not really processing that information and my poor husband is an absolute mess over it.

  • Hi sorry you are going through all this worry.

All I can say is that 'if' cancer is a possibility then it's normal to be sent on the 2 week urgent refferal.

Another top tip is to NOT google anything... fills your head with horror.

Try to keep busy for the next couple of weeks, take it one day at a time, you have the best team taking over now, looking after you, getting to the bottom of whatever is causing your symptoms.

Try to be positive, ring the nurses on here for a chat.

Let us know how you go, keeping my fingers crssed for good news xxxx

  • My enlarged ovarian cysts were removed and the multiple biopsies came back benign, l saw oncology gynaecology surgeon she was great a spent over 4 hours removing extensive adhesions she said others would have left them.
l hope you have a similar experience and all goes well. My daughter had a huge cyst when pregnant it was the size of a grapefruit removing it had the added risk of miscarriage she fortunately was fine.
take care try to keep busy busy

    susie

  • **UPDATE**

Rang doctors this afternoon to check if my bloodwork came back, it did the day after they had been taken.

Asked if all was ok to be met with "oh, urm, I cant give you any information, its been locked under your gp. She is in tomorrow so if she hasnt been intouch by the same time ring back"

Ive never had bloodwork "locked" by a gp before, usually I ring and reception gives me all the info needed....

Needless to say I will not be sleeping tonight!!!!!

  • I've recently been through a similar waiting period for tests and results and the stress is awful. I talked to family and friends which helped a lot - in the past I might have been too concerned about burdening them, especially if you don;t know know if you have cancer or not, but I put that concern to the side for once and it really did help me. Especially when they said positive and hopeful things - it gave me some strength and reminded me that whtaever was to happen I had their support. I hope you are okay.

  • Thank you, im just so full of stress right now. I havent told my family only my husband knows because they will just make everything 10 times worse.

Still waiting on doctor calling, shes in at some point this afternoon, booking told me that the very urgent referral from my gp has been downgraded to "routine" im just at the point of giving up!

They did this with my aunt then when they finally bothered with her they found she had stage 3 and thats what im dreading

  • Hi

    Have you heard anything?

Routine is good.... it means they aren't worried anymore.

Just a simple call for a couple of minutes can instantly change everything,, the worry can end that second and the relief is amazing, why do they keep us waiting forever.
