Lump protruding between 3rd and 4th rib?

I went to the doctors yesterday presenting with some odd symptoms but specifically a growing hard lump between my third and forth rib on the left - to - central side of my chest. It doesn't hurt but has certainly grown over the past 8 months, slowly but surely. I am due to have an x-ray, although may take a few weeks to get it booked etc. I wasn't worried about it hugely but since yesterday am having a small panic time to time, especially as it may be several weeks before I even have the x-ray, let alone get the results. I also had a blood test done on monday and most looks fine although I have quite high iron levels, but very low ferritin levels (where iron is stored) which my GP had never seen before. Just wanted to hear other peoples experiences with lumps on their chests whether it be good news or bad. TIA.

Edit: Just wanted to add that over the past few weeks I've been having some really bad back pain.

  • Hello concernedbea and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I hope you won't have to wait too long for your X Ray appointment. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to find out more. The long wait to first have the test done and then again for the results can be overwhelming at times and there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have had similar experiences before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
