Worried about possible uterine cancer

Hi all

I have been having irregular periods for around 3-4 years now and then had a heavy period that lasted around 8 days, 6 of them the heaviest it's ever been. I was worried Tamoxifen caused it as I was taking that for breast cancer prevention, so called the Dr. Dr sent me for an ultrasound, the report is as follows

The anteverted uterus appears normal in size, outline. The echotexture is heterogenous, with no specific fibroids seen. The endometrium has irregular margins, measures 9.2mm at its widest. The texture is inhomogenous with a vague focal area of 6mm, noted towards the fundus? clot? polyp?

My Dr said at 10mm they would refer but did it anyway due to the iregular margins. I have tried googling, but it's pointing to horror stories. My Nan died of uterine carcinosarcoma

Dr queried endometrial hyperplasia when sending me for the scan

Does anyone understand why the echotexture is heterogenous? What is 6mm and what can cause iregular margins pls, ty (I'm 43)

  • Hello UKMisfit23

I'm sorry that you've had some health concerns recently. It's good to know that you've already seen your GP and that you've had an initial ultrasound.

Unfortunately, we're not able to comment on clinical reports. It sounds as if your GP is taking cautious steps to get things checked with the specialist and hopefully you won't have to wait too long for that appointment.

It's possible that the Gynaecology team may want to do more tests before being able to give you a firm diagnosis but hopefully, they will be able to give you some reassurance when you see them.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
