Inverted nipple: have been referred to the breast clinic

Hello, I first noticed my nipple inversion in 2017 however they put it down to me loosing weight. I am now 26 and have been referred to the breast clinic for a mammogram and scan and I am so scared it's something more worrying. I have no other symptoms other than this inversion that only happens when I'm cold or 'in the mood'. It goes really hard and basically looks like a little hole.

I'm really hoping it's just a blocked milk duct or something like that but any reassurance would be great!

Thank you x

  • Hello Jadeamandax and welcome to Cancer Chat!

I think it's good to have this inverted nipple looked into more closely at the breast clinic even if you have no other symptoms apart from this inversion and that it only happens on certain occasions. Now you have been referred to the breast clinic, you will be in very expert hands and I hope they can tell you soon what it might be. Try not to worry too much as the vast majority of breast clinic referrals turn out not to be cancer so I am keeping everything crossed for you that you find out more about this soon.

To help you prepare for your appointment, I thought I would share detailed information from Breast Cancer Care on what to expect from your breast clinic appointment. More information on breast screening including mammograms is also available on our website.

I hope you won't need to wait too long for your appointment and I am keeping everything crossed for you it all goes well and turns out to be nothing of concern. I will now let our other members who have been seen at the breast clinic before for inverted nipple issues come and share their experience with you. It does help to talk to others who have been in a similar place.

    Best wishes,
