Tonsil growing a friend?

Hi. Hoping someone can relate to this and be able to answer my questions. I've looked all over and I haven't found any pictures that look like my right tonsil. It's been swollen for many years now, ever since my first tonsillitis case when I was a teenager. On the size scale of 0-4 I'd say it's a 3. I'm pretty good at getting out the tonsil stones on both sides now. The left tonsil is hidden but it manages to produce quite a lot of stones. About two years ago my right tonsil had a tiny little dot on it. It was the colour of the tonsil and I thought maybe a skin tag? Weird place though to get one though. It's now grown to about a pea size. It's like my tonsil wanted another friend so it's a growing an extra one. I used to call it the "kangaroo pouch" because at one point I could hook out tonsil stones, like they were in a little pouch. But now it's filled in and I'm running out of room in my throat. I have a swollen uvula (again, had for years) and my throat is always sore looking. The glands in my neck are always around too.  In the past I have spoken to a gp about my throat but I've never gotten anywhere apart from a throat swab and them agreeing it looks bad but... nothing. (They ended it kinda like that, weird) So I really don't want to go try all that again. Basically - can anyone relate to this? What on earth is my tonsil doing? I haven't found any pictures online that look similar. How big is it gonna grow? I'm already tight for space!
oh another thing. On the left cheek at the back where the wisdom tooth is, when I feel with my tongue the skin feels tougher and tighter compared to the right. Like I can't move it as far as the right. BUT I have some scarring sort of nearby because I chew the inside of my cheek when I'm asleep so it's got a line of white scar. But it's not in the same area or linked. But it is nearby.
Thank you for reading this, if you have any ideas please let me know. I'm not especially concerned that this is cancer so I apologise if I'm using this forum incorrectly - I don't know where else to post and I don't do much internet stuff but I know this is a legitimate site that's monitored so that's reassuring. Also, sorry if I've posted this in the wrong bit.

  • Hello AddedOn,

I am so sorry to hear about these issues on your tonsils. Poor you having to deal with all these tonsil stones. I hope that you will hear from other members who have had these types of problems before and that they will come and share their experience with you.

I know you mentioned that you have already spoken to a GP about this and have never got anywhere but as this seems to be bothering you so much, it might be worth seeking a second opinion. You can read more about how to get a second opinion on this page

I hope you manage to talk to a doctor soon about your concerns and that things improve quickly for you.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you for replying to my post. I worry that going back to a gp at this point wouldn't get me anywhere. If I only get a phone appt and I can't describe things properly bla bla bla. I don't want it to become an adversarial thing with them. (It's a new gp my old gp closed, not that it was adversarial with them).
I do hope someone posts who has an idea what is going on with my throat and understands what I mean with my description.

  • It's unfortunate that no one can relate to this but I'm glad I tried!

  • Hi I’m having exactly the same issue, I always get tonsil stones and I’ve noticed like a skin tag looking thing on my left tonsil I have always had issues with my tonsils growing up and so they are permanently really big, I’m quite nervous to go to the gp about it as I’m slightly embarrassed. I was wondering if you have any updates on your case?

  • Nothing to be embarrassed about. You need to see a gp if you have a growth in your oral cavity, and the fact you're on here means "cancer" is what you're thinking. No one here can diagnose anyone whether it be a tonsil issue or an issue with your big toe. If you can see something, it means the doctor will be able to visualise it too. So you making an appointment is more than justified. Don't mess around with any growths in your oral cavity. Almost all turn out to be nothing, but some do and the oral cavity being what it is, contains fast growing cells, and issues within can't be ignored like you would with lumps and bumps elsewhere.

Yeah, probably nothing at all, but you need a qualified person to tell you that, and an in person appointment.
